Job Description
Corporate Controller
We’re partnering with a fast-moving company in the financial space that needs a rockstar Controller to lead their corporate accounting operations. If you love clean closes, developing talent, and getting elbows-deep in both GAAP and statutory reporting, this one’s for you.
Location: Schaumburg, IL
Compensation: $220k plus bonus plus LTI
What you’ll be doing (and doing well):
- Leading the charge on all things accounting—GL, AP, investment accounting—you own it.
- Running a smooth quarter-end close that would make auditors weep with joy.
- Supporting financial reporting with a sharp eye and an even sharper red pen.
- Mentoring and guiding a smart, hungry team who look up to you for both answers and career advice.
- Partnering on big stuff—acquisitions, system rollouts, process improvements, and special projects that actually matter.
- Serving as the go-to accounting expert on evolving GAAP, SEC, and NAIC guidance.
Who you are:
- A roll-up-your-sleeves leader with deep accounting chops.
- Fluent in both technical accounting and team-building.
- The kind of person who can spot a mis posted journal entry from 50 yards.
- Curious, collaborative, and excited to make a big impact.
Additional Advantages:
- Be a key player in a stable and respected organization experiencing thoughtful growth.
- Make a strategic impact through high-visibility projects and collaboration with senior leaders.
- Enjoy a culture that values technical excellence, development, and innovation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA strongly preferred (MBA and Big Four experience are a plus)
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with exposure to the insurance or financial services industry
- Deep knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting, with a proven ability to resolve complex technical issues
- Strong communicator with the ability to translate complex accounting matters to non-experts and executive leadership
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing high-performing finance teams and driving cross-functional projects
This is a high-visibility role with a company that’s growing and modernizing—and they need someone like you to help shape what comes next. If you’re ready to lead from the front and still geek out over process improvements and clean audit reports, let’s talk.
